China blames Netherlands for ignoring demands in Nexperia dispute
A Commerce Ministry spokesperson said the Netherlands “failed to respond constructively” during consultations, describing its actions as “improper interference” that has destabilized the semiconductor supply chain. According to reports, China has “promptly” handled export license applications, granted exemptions in qualified cases, and assisted Nexperia’s China unit in resuming supplies to support global supply chain stability.
"China hopes the Netherlands, from the standpoint of safeguarding overall China-Netherlands and China-EU economic and trade relations as well as the stability and security of global supply chains, will act responsibly and meet China halfway," the spokesperson said.
"The Dutch side should stop interfering in corporate internal affairs and find a constructive solution to the Nexperia issue."
The tensions follow Beijing’s decision to impose an export ban on chips produced at Nexperia’s Chinese factories, after the Netherlands temporarily assumed control of the company on Sept. 30 under a 1952 law designed to protect European production. Dutch officials have defended the move, citing concerns that critical technological expertise could leave Europe.
Nexperia, based in Nijmegen, produces essential chips for automotive and household electronics and was acquired in 2019 by China’s Wingtech Technology.
