KLM Suspends Flights to Tel Aviv Over Security Concerns

(MENAFN) Dutch airline KLM announced on Wednesday that it will postpone the restart of flights to Israel’s capital, Tel Aviv, citing ongoing security conditions and operational feasibility.

“Based on the current security situation and operational feasibility, we have decided not to resume our flights to Tel Aviv for the time being,” the airline said in a statement.

KLM noted that it continues to operate flights to other destinations in the region, including Riyadh and Dammam in Saudi Arabia, and expects flights to Dubai, UAE, to resume on Friday.

“We continue to monitor the situation closely. As soon as it is safe and responsible to do so, we aim to offer our customers reliable connections again as quickly as possible,” the statement added.

On Saturday, the carrier had already announced that, due to the “geopolitical situation,” it would avoid the airspace over Iran, Iraq, and Israel as a precaution.

The decision follows a broader trend among European airlines, many of which have canceled flights to certain countries in the region amid concerns over escalating tensions between the US and Iran. US and Israeli pressure on Iran has grown since nationwide protests erupted in late December over worsening economic and living conditions, with officials signaling ambitions to see changes in Iran’s political system, in place since 1979.
